Communication:
I will send emails, notes, or post updates on our classroom blog (this website) to communicate important events, upcoming activities, and reminders. If I do not have a current email address for you, please notify me. The best way to reach me is to email me at eastc@parkhill.k12.mo.us. You may also leave me a voice message by calling 359-5973.
Home Learning:
Home Learning takes place in the classroom and at home. I may assign additional learning opportunities to students on an individual basis when extra practice on a skill is needed or for enrichment. Fourth graders benefit immensely from reading and practicing math facts each day. Work completed at home is not for the purpose of assessing learning; students will receive my feedback on all work completed in and outside of school. Due dates will be set to help with time management. Be sure to check your child's take home folder or planner for any home learning activities.
ClassDojo:
ClassDojo is a tool that I will be using to help build your student's learning habits and boost classroom engagement. ClassDojo allows me to track student behavior and learning skills. This tool will help the students stay focused, motivated, and engaged throughout the day! It also captures and generates data on behavior that I will share with you often.
Students will be able to earn points for positive behaviors, but also lose points if their behavior is inappropriate. Students will also be able to redeem their points for rewards.
S.T.A.R. Celebrations:
Fourth graders have many responsibilities. Some of the responsibilities include bringing back their Take Home Folder and Planner, following rules througout the day in the classroom, hallway, restroom, specials, cafeteria, and on the playground. When students show that they are responsible, they will have an opportunity to take part in our weekly Students That Are Responsible celebration.
Classroom Rights:
In order to create a safe, happy classroom environment, fourth grade students learn to follow five classroom rights. We will discuss the responsibilities of fourth graders that go along with each right throughout the school year.
You have the right to a safe environment.
You have the right to be heard and respected.
You have the right to a quality education.
You have the right to use school equipment, books, and materials.
You have the right to a bully-free environment.
Birthdays:
It is fun for students to celebrate birthdays at school! Feel free to bring in treats to celebrate a birthday. If a student's birthday is in the summer time, we will celebrate with them on their half birthday. Treats must be store bought and packaged. Home baked treats are not allowed.
